I've always loved iris because they remind me of girls in prom dresses. They show up in the spring around the time of the spring formals when I am driving around in Tennessee seeing packs of dressed up young girls in different spots taking photographs. Like the iris petals, they are so showy but delicate. However, as showy as the petals may be (and the young ladies, presumably), the iris is one of the hardiest bulbs. It can survive everything. They can be left out to dry, tossed around, left in the cold and still, every spring they come back with more flowers, more ruffles and stronger than before. Also, just like a lot of young ladies I know.
The monarch butterflies embody beauty and resilience in their own way. They make an amazing migration journey, traveling thousands of miles from North America to central Mexico. To me, this journey of endurance and transformation is a wonder of nature.
The combination of strength and exquisite beauty reminds that we don't have to be ugly to be tough. Sometimes it hides within the most delicate looking creations.
